Journalistic Content & Free Speech Protections

This Website includes investigative journalism, editorial commentary, and reporting on matters of public concern. That content carries specific legal protections I do not waive by posting it here.

Article 40 of the Maryland Declaration of Rights(4) protects the liberty of the press and freedom of speech. Content on this Website that constitutes reporting, commentary, or public interest expression receives that protection, alongside First Amendment protections under the United States Constitution.

Maryland's Anti-SLAPP statute(1), Md. Code Ann., Cts. & Jud. Proc. § 5-807, protects communications made to the public on matters of public concern. RyanRMiner.com will fully assert any expanded anti-SLAPP protections, including mandatory fee-shifting and discovery stays, enacted by the Maryland General Assembly during or after the 2026 legislative session.

Nothing in these Terms constitutes a waiver of any press freedom, speech, or anti-SLAPP protection available under federal or Maryland law.

Governing Law & Jurisdiction

The laws of the United States and the State of Maryland govern these Terms, without regard to conflict of law principles. The state courts in Washington County, Maryland, and the United States District Court for the District of Maryland hold exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising under or in connection with these Terms.

You waive any objection to the exercise of jurisdiction over you by these courts and to venue in these courts.

Maryland Consumer Protection Act

To the extent these Terms govern any commercial offer, sale, or representation I make through this Website, I comply with the Maryland Consumer Protection Act(5), Md. Code, Com. Law §§ 13-301 and 13-303. This section covers commercial transactions or offers I make through the Website and does not characterize or limit the legal status of independent journalistic, editorial, or expressive content.
